3.0 Company's Information

As you may already know this, I have been interning at Zalora Malaysia for almost three months now. My first day of work was on the 3rd of August and my last day of work is supposed to be on this 2nd of November, but as I am entitled to an annual leave each month, I have decided to use my last annual leave for my last day so that I can make my last day of work a Friday instead of a Monday, which is definitely better. According to Taylor's University, my internship period was actually supposed to be for a duration of ten weeks only, from the 10th of August until the 23rd of October, which means that I have started my internship by a week earlier and ends a week later. It does not really matter to me to work for an extra of two weeks as I have always been a fan of Zalora, and was feeling really excited and overwhelmed to be able to get the chance to work for Zalora Malaysia.

3.1 About Zalora

Zalora is an e-commerce platform that focuses on selling fashion merchandise throughout Asia, especially in South East Asia. It was founded back in 2012 in Singapore by Zalora Group that is backed up by a strong suite of blue-chip investors, mainly Rocket Internet, which is the driving force behind numerous successful fashion e-commerce ventures around the globe. Zalora has now expanded to Brunei & Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, and employs almost a total of two thousand employees for all of their markets. Apart from that, Zalora Group also has presence in Australia and New Zealand with another e-commerce platform called The Iconic. In less than three years, Zalora Group has already become the market leader for all of their markets, which makes them the leading online fashion destination in Asia and Oceania.

There are many reasons on why Zalora was able to take the lead among their competitors in each of their markets. One of the reasons is because Zalora has a warehouse in every country that they are operating in. This enables them to deliver customers' orders quickly and remotely, which will increase customers' loyalty and satisfaction. Furthermore, they also ship out orders the same day that their customers order so that they can provide their so called "flash shipping" service. In addition, Zalora also has a wide range of products that has the latest styles and trends. These products could be from brands as big as Adidas, Nike, River Island, and Topshop or could be from many other smaller brands that are usually sold by small online sellers. This makes their customers more satisfied as they have a wider variety of choices compared to their competitors when wanting to buy something online.

Moreover, Zalora also has their own private label that is specially designed to meet the needs and wants of their customers. This will satisfy their target market's demands, which will then increase their revenue directly. Not only that, but Zalora also provide the convenience for their customers as they just need a computer with internet connection to purchase anything they want from their website. Along with their newly-launched mobile application, customers do not even need a computer anymore as they can just purchase anything they want from Zalora through their smartphones in just one click. Lastly, Zalora also aims to take global local and take local global by providing both international and local brands to their customers. This basically means they want to provide a platform where the locals can buy international brands, while people from other countries can buy our local brands. This is definitely a great way for one's country to expand their target market, which will then generate them more revenue.

3.2 About The Marketing Department

There are a total of nine departments in Zalora Malaysia, which includes Buying, Customer Experience, Finance, Human Resource, IT & Security, Marketing, Marketplace, Operations, Production, and Warehous & Logistics. As for me, I have been assigned to work as a campaign management intern under the marketing department for Zalora Malaysia. Zalora's marketing department plays a huge role in contributing towards Zalora's success as it has another eight sub-departments that are very important as well. This includes my very own team, which is Campaign Management, then Customer Relationship Management, Graphic Design, On-site, Partnership, Public Relation, Search Engine Optimisation, and Social Media.

The marketing department mainly aims to drive traffic to the website through many different channels such as advertisements, emails, newsletters, partnerships, and search engines. Apart from that, we are also responsible in managing promotional and sales campaigns through external channels and on-site banners in order to increase revenue and margin, especially by using discount pricing strategies while coordinating with the buying department in order to drive our target market towards our best-selling and most profitable products. Other than that, we also give feedbacks to the buying department on what sells well and what does not so that they know which type of products to buy and to stop buying in the future.

That is not all, but we are also in charge of managing our marketing campaigns for third party brands that do not have a strong presence online, but are willing to sell their products through our website to start targeting online buyers. This is usually done by launching their brands and new collections. Lastly, we also have to ensure that our website is always fully optimised in order to give our visitors the best user experience possible. This is done by ensuring that our website always looks good to our visitors' point of view, which includes how both our navigational and promotional banners looks like.
